Today I bought a small glass of puszta salad (net veggie weight 190 grams -less than half a pound) at our local Kaufland shopping mall in Kiel-Mettenhof, Germany.
I want to put the puszta veggies (red, green bell pepper, pickles, onions, carrots and celery) into a mix of potato-egg mayo salad.
Well, you can produce homemade puszta salad by putting small 'shredded' bell pepper (red, yellow, green), pickles (gherkins), onions, carrots and celery in a bowl and mix it with water, vinegar and sugar, salt and let it rest for some time, keep it cool.
When using small amounts of puszta salad, the ready-made version is much more convenient, right?
Prep time ca. 40 mins
Recipe for 3-4 people
For this side-dish you need:
1 lb of potatoes, firmly cooked, then slice them
3 L-sized eggs, boiled for 6 mins, cut to small pieces
1 big onion, cut to small pieces
1 big gherkin, cut to small pieces
almost 0.5 lb of puszta salad mix
5 tablespoons of mayo (preferably low fat)
3 tablespoons of pickles' water or from the puszta salad mix
1 tablespoon of curry powder or 1 tablespoon of regular mustard
some salt and pepper
Mix all the ingredients mentioned above in a big bowl and let the mix rest for some hours in a cool environment.
The 'cold' salad is a yummy side-dish for big hot wiener (pork) schnitzels that come freshly fried from a pan or out of a baking oven.
